Lee Dorsey, the world's funkiest auto mechanic, topped the R&B charts in with "Ya Ya," a bit of bubblegum soul arranged by Allen Toussaint that exemplifies the sound of his early-'60s Fury recordings. Dorsey was an important and commercially successful product of the New Orleans R&B scene with a sound as distinctive as Fats Domino, and one look at the track list of Ya!8/

Second only to Fats Domino as an exemplar of New Orleans music, Lee Dorsey () made his name through a string of classic hit singles, including "Ya Ya," "Ride Your Pony," "Working in a Coalmine," "Everything I Do Gohn Be Funky" and "Yes We Can." Working in tandem with producer Allen Toussaint and the great backing band the Meters, Dorsey, with his sly, good-time vocals and clever.

New Orleans-born Lee Dorsey was a former boxer who turned rock singer. He had a minor hit for a local New Orleans record company that resulted in a contract with Fury Records, a nationally distributed label. In he recorded the catchy "Ya Ya", which went to the #1 spot on the US charts.A follow-up record, "Do-Re-Mi", was a smaller hit.

The LP contains highlights from the Crescent City scene like the album title and #1 hit, “Ya Ya”, plus other joyful R&B cuts such as “Eenie MeenieMini Mo,” “Yum Yum,” “Chin Chin,” and “Give Me You,” to name just a few. These tracks feature Dorsey’s sly, playful, and demonstrative vocals, plus accompaniment by saxophonist.

The effervescent approach of Lee Dorsey perfectly encapsulates the infectious charm of early-'60s New Orleans R&B. Dorsey specialized in good-humored music with a touch of second-line funk thrown in to make it all the more irresistible. Although he had already waxed a couple of singles, he caught the country by surprise in with his deceptively simply nursery-rhyme-style "Ya Ya" on Bobby.
