The Cassin's Sparrow is a bird of the southern Great Plains and Mexico, a Utah sighting would warrant a call to the birding hot line. The Cassin's Vireo is the result of a recent split of the Solitary Vireo group and is uncommon in Utah with the center of the Cassin's range occurring further west.

Aug 28,  · From the Winter issue of Living Bird magazine. Subscribe now. In the dry, open country, of the Southwest lives a lemon-yellow, storm-cloud gray flycatcher known as Cassin’s Kingbird. A prolific songster, it's a species as prominent as the ornithologist it was named after, John Cassin.

Aug 01,  · BIRDING BY EAR. Most bird-watchers spend more time listening to the sounds birds make than they do actually watching them. In fact, an experienced bird-watcher can identify most, if not all, of the birds in a given area just by listening to their songs or calls.
